Apple Valley, MN – Aquatic Center
Designers incorporated several sustainable features to save energy, material, and water, including variable frequency drives (VFDs), premium efficiency motors, low-maintenance and durable building materials and finishes, stormwater retention for on-site infiltration, and low-maintenance landscaping selections.
Careful planning allowed continued use of the original aquatic center during the construction of the expansion without lost revenue.
The expansion has added unique features that appeal to older children and adults, building on the success of the original facility’s focus on families with younger children. The Family Aquatic Facility has grown along with the City’s residents.
Apple Valley Inn Hilltop House
The Hilltop House, situated above the 30-building compound, was a 5,000sq/ft mansion atop the highest hill in Apple Valley, and home to Newton T. Bass, one of Apple Valley’s founding developers.
The house was burned by arsonists in 1967 and restored to become a conference room and meeting place for Bass’ building and development company.
It has since become a dilapidated ruin and a victim to vandalism, awaiting unsuccessfully for restoration and redevelopment.
